Arm Lift
What an Arm Lift Can Do for You
Brachioplasty, more commonly called an arm lift, is designed to tighten and slim down the upper arm by getting rid of loose skin and stubborn fat, leaving the arm looking smoother and more in proportion with the rest of the body.
This is achieved through two main steps:
- Liposuction to break down and remove excess fat
- Surgical removal of loose, sagging skin
Together, these steps allow for a noticeable reduction of both fat and skin along the upper arm, typically covering the stretch from the elbow up to the underarm area.
Who Should Consider an Arm Lift?
The best candidates for this surgery are usually people dealing with loose or sagging skin on their upper arms as their main concern often the result of past weight fluctuations, sun exposure, natural aging, or simply genetics.
You might be a good fit for arm lift surgery if you experience the following:
Oversized Upper Arms
Some people feel their upper arms look too large compared to the rest of their frame and want a more balanced silhouette.
Loose Skin Following Major Weight Loss
Those who’ve had bariatric surgery or lost a significant amount of weight often deal with arms that feel “loose” or lack firmness.
Arms Losing Tone With Age
It’s common for arms to lose their firmness over time, with skin sagging and wrinkles becoming more noticeable as the years go on.
In general, candidates should be in good physical health. Age isn’t a barrier both younger and older patients can qualify for this procedure. Every candidate goes through a careful evaluation at Blue Angel Poly Clinic to make sure the surgery is both safe and appropriate for them.
How the Arm Lift Procedure Works
Before the surgery starts, precise markings are drawn on the arms to map out exactly where liposuction will be done and how much skin needs to come off. Once the patient is under anesthesia, liposuction is performed first to reduce the bulk of the arm and prepare the area for the next step.
After that, the excess skin and the fat layer beneath it are carefully removed enough to create a natural-looking result that isn’t pulled too tight or left too loose. The incision is then closed with sutures and covered with a dressing. The same steps are repeated on the second arm before the patient is brought out of anesthesia.
Recovering From an Arm Lift
Right After Surgery
Once the procedure is done, patients are moved to a recovery area where they’re monitored closely as the anesthesia wears off. After meeting the criteria for discharge, they’re able to head home with a friend or family member.
Healing at Home
For the first week at home, physical activity should be kept to a minimum. The arms will be bandaged and should be kept slightly raised while sitting or lying down propping them up on pillows on either side works well. This helps bring down swelling, eases discomfort, and speeds up healing.
Some tightness and soreness in the arms is normal for the first 1–2 weeks, along with mild bruising that usually fades within the same period. Light exercise is generally allowed after two weeks, though anything that puts strain on the arms should wait until at least four weeks post-surgery.
Pain is usually managed with short-term prescription medication, which most patients only need for about a week.

Who is a good candidate for an arm lift?
People with sagging or loose upper arm skin, often after weight loss or aging, are usually good candidates. Being in good general health is also important.
What happens during an arm-lift procedure?
Under anesthesia, liposuction removes excess fat first, followed by careful removal of loose skin. The incision is then closed with sutures.

The surgery generally takes between 2 to 3 hours, depending on how much skin and fat needs to be addressed.
What is the recovery time for brachioplasty?
Most patients feel tightness and soreness for the first 1–2 weeks, with light activity resuming around that time. Full recovery takes a few weeks longer.

Yes, a scar runs along the inner arm from the elbow toward the underarm, but it fades significantly and lightens over several months.
